While the Obama administration says it needs more time to assess the potential risks around Keystone XL pipeline is proposed, a vast underground network of more than 2 million miles of pipeline across the United States energy already.
Some energy experts representing oil and gas industry said Keystone XL, 1,700 kilometres of pipes is controversial that will run from Canada to Texas, which poses less of a risk to the environment than the estimated 50,000 kilometers of crude oil pipelines crisscrossing the U.S. network already, they say safely and efficiently.
The Obama administration on Wednesday blocked a permit for $ 7 billion Keystone XL, at least for a while, claim reviews more thorough is necessary to examine the problems that can cause the air and water quality. The pipeline system, proposed by the company between Canada, which will carry crude oil from the Athabasca oil sands in Northeastern Alberta to several locations in the United States, including as far as the Gulf Coast of Texas. Keystone XL will go on through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma, and the so-called “feeder pipe” would connect it to the rich oil fields in North Dakota and Montana.
The u.s. State Department has expressed concern over the environmental impact of the pipeline, particularly in the Nebraska Sandhills, the dunes of porous which includes a high concentration of wetlands and aquifer keys.
